Comparing Arabic Legal Documents
(8th to 15th centuries)

The Project

CALD is a powerful research tool for the study and analysis of legal documents in Arabic. It was developed by the ERC-AdG-project Islamic Law Materialized (ILM), directed by Christian Müller from 2009 to 2013 (http://www.ilm-project.net/). As historical source of primary importance, Arabic deeds are however difficult to read and dispersed all over the world. By collecting more than 3000 legal documents from the 7th to the 16th century C.E., CALD aims to facilitate the study of Islamic law from a historical perspective. We proudly present a sample of documents and its CALD research environment, a corpus that will grow with time. You may create your proper account and then access to images and further analytical tools.
